More hardworking students

English

Years 7, 8 & 9

Students are set in Year 7 after the first half term and are taught in half year groups until Year 9. The curriculum is mapped across Key stage 3 based on the four ability profiles, and students are taught the skills and understanding needed to start the GCSE in Year 10.

Years 10 & 11

The department aims to develop students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening and to promote a love of literature by teaching the WJEC Eduqas English Language and Literature specifications. Students are encouraged to explore language through studying a wide range of texts and to acquire the skills needed to present their opinions effectively both in discussion and in writing. The department recognises that some students may excel in certain areas of the subject, whilst finding other areas, perhaps written work, more of a challenge.  This is one of the reasons why students are taught in ability groups throughout their GCSEs.
