Dear Parents, Students and Colleagues

We have nearly reached the end of the first year at Twickenham Academy and I wanted to write to thank you all for your support as we start to make a real difference at the school.

The hard work and enthusiasm of the staff and the commitment of  so many students has enabled us to make more progress than we imagined would be possible in our first year.  On a personal note I would like to say how much I enjoy working with our students. So many of them take such an active part in the life of the Academy and, in doing so, make it a great place to learn and work. It was great to finish the year with our awards ceremonies. The support given to these events by families and the many positive comments you made are very much appreciated.

I am looking forward enormously to next year as our curriculum package will be available to Years 7, 8, 10 and, in part, for Year 9. This represents a significant expansion of our learning model across the academy. We will not lose sight of Year 11 however as enabling them to achieve the best results possible is important for every single individual. I know that every member of staff will be working tirelessly to help every student to achieve their goal and reach their full potential.

The need to build a new school is something that I know has been an aspiration within the local community for a number of years. We know that our students will achieve even more when we give them the right facilities and environment. It is therefore brilliant to see the building programme under way. The temporary accommodation that has started to arrive this term also looks good! We will exploit the opportunity it gives us to improve the facilities in a number of ways. Seeing the new school rise out of the ground will be a source of great satisfaction and pride to many in the local community and is the culmination of over two years  hard work. It will be a wonderful school when it opens!

Despite the achievements of the year we are also realistic and know that it will take a little longer to put everything in place that is necessary to provide the quality of education necessary to move us towards our target of becoming an outstanding school. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the year on the occasions when developments have been a little slower than we hoped. I know that you will continue to feed back your thoughts to us so that we can make the changes and adjustments that will enable us to continue on an improvement path.

Thank you again to all of you who have supported us during this important year. I am very much looking forward to meeting you at our goal setting events early in the next academic year.
