6th May 2011Dear Parents, Students and Colleagues
I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter break and long weekend — whether you are a Royal Wedding fan or not! It started very positively for me with news that will have a long term effect on the future of the school. On Thursday evening we attended a planning meeting and were granted planning permission for our new buildings, so we can look forward to the excitement and challenge of the building project. Work will start in a few weeks and I will be talking to students and staff to prepare for the changes we will have to make on the site, so that we can continue to improve what we do at the Academy while the project goes ahead.
The introduction of temporary accommodation, to replace some classrooms that will be demolished, could be seen as a challenge but the staff at the Academy are turning this into an opportunity. We will be reshaping the accommodation, so that it helps us to deliver the new learning programmes that are under construction at the moment. Linked to this will be an improvement in ICT facilities, so that access is even better than we currently have. We are working to a position where every faculty area has access to their own ICT resources, either with a dedicated ICT suite or with a mobile trolley with laptops.
We are arranging for the architect and construction team to come along to the next parents´ forum, so that we can update you on how the early phases of the construction will be implemented. Our top priority is to make sure that leaning can continue as normal and especially that no exam classes or examinations are disrupted in any way.
