Students of the Week
1 September 2010
Student of the week this we should be entitled ‘Students´ of the week as we would like to acknowledge the success of  Y11 at our predecessor school. A big ‘Well Done´ to all the staff and students who produced a set of examination results that continues a clear upward movement over the last three years. Students achieving five A-C grades this year rose to a record 79%  with 47% of students achieving passes in five subjects including English and maths.

Phil Davies, Associate Principal at Twickenham Academy and former Acting Headteacher of Whitton School congratulated the staff and students for working together to achieve these results and continuing the improvement path with the school. “I´m delighted that the energy and effort put in by all staff and students has been rewarded with this excellent set of results that are the best ever for the school."

Nick Jones, Principal of Twickenham Academy added his congratulations to students and staff. “These results show just how determined everyone is at Twickenham Academy to provide a personalised education that allows every student to succeed. The results give us a wonderful platform to move forward into academy status. With our new curriculum, a fantastic new building, dedicated staff and a terrific group of students, we will be aiming even higher next year and accelerating this upward trend"

Principal's Welcome
1 September
Welcome to Twickenham Academy, a new choice of school that  we believe is an exciting and inspiring place to learn. It is a school where we put the needs of students at the heart of everything we do. Our students are enthusiastic, supportive and caring but importantly, each one of them is an individual who learns in different ways and at different rates. It is our aim to provide each student with personalised support and learning programmes to meet their specific needs and help them to achieve their ambitions.

To do this we have developed an innovative curriculum. We have an academically rigorous approach to all core subjects such as maths and English, where students progress at a pace that meets their needs, using  a specially developed ‘STEPS Curriculum´. They also benefit from a thematic, problem solving approach in other curriculum areas where they will develop the personal learning and thinking skills that will make them successful learners throughout their school life and into the future.

Our unique model of education is also based around a three college structure, providing a human scale learning environment for every student. The college model allows students and teachers to get to know one another more quickly than in a traditional secondary school structure.

Within their college each student will belong to a base group of no more than 21 students. The Base Group Tutor has the responsibility to support and care for their students, to help them to plan their programme and achieve their goals. Parents receive regular updates from tutors on their child´s academic progress. There is a ‘Goal Setting Day´ near the start of the year in October.

As you work through this website we will give you more information about our curriculum, the learning spaces we are creating and the one to one tutorial that every student will have with their Base Group Tutor each week. The very best way of understanding our unique, contemporary school is to come and see for yourselves the exciting developments at Twickenham Academy. If you are considering us as a choice of school please come and visit the academy and meet with students and staff.

We hope that you  enjoy visiting the website and find the information yo need . If you are considering us as a choice of school  we hope that you will want to join us, to enjoy a great education and to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Building Update
1 September
We hope you will have seen in the local press the news that the Secretary of State has formally approved the capital spending budget of £22.5 million so that we can build a brand new school to replace the existing buildings. We are delighted that the Secretary of State has granted the full funding required for the project and that it will continue in line with the original schedule. In his letter Michael Gove emphasised his support and said "I have asked my officials to ensure that every possible obstacle is cleared from your path so we can proceed smoothly".

We are pleased for the students, staff and the local community that this much needed project is going ahead in order to continue to improve the education we offer. Please continue to log on to the Twickenham Academy website to keep up to date with developments.
