Head Boy and Head Girl
Hello, I´m Richard Shelly, head boy of Twickenham Academy. Hello, I´m Zowe Kotamo and I´m head girl of Twickenham Academy. We are going to talk about many issues we are planning on improving within the school as head boy and head girl. Firstly, the mound. As a student I have heard many complaints voiced by students about the mound, for example I have known that a roof on the mound has been suggested numerous times. Nothing has ever come of these suggestions but as head boy I am willing to succeed in voicing students concerns on this issue as well as others. Another huge issue present in not just this school but schools across the country is the food being served in the canteen. A solution I have come up with and would be willing to put forward is a “Snack Shack" in which students get to choose their own menu from a wider and healthier range of choices. Responsible year 9´s could run this “Snack Shack" as an introduction to responsibility within the school environment. Also, as you may or may not remember the school used to have an art wall in which students were allowed to draw in graffiti style their interpretation of the school environment. At the time as a student I thought this was an excellent idea and therefore as head boy I would like to re-introduce this to the new buildings once they are built. I feel this is a great of students voicing their opinions in a creative way. I remember as a year 7, I was worried about starting afresh in a new environment but I had many friends with me. Unfortunately this isn´t the case for all new year 7´s and many come alone from their primary school. Therefore, I have come up with a scheme that could help year 7´s feel more comfortable in which 2 ambassadors from upper college are assigned to a year 7 tutor group. Not only would this make them feel more comfortable but also create connections between the older and younger students bringing us closer together as a school. Recently a new idea has also been introduced inside the school which is solely run by upper college pupils. This is our own school radio: Twickenham Radio. As only students are involved with this, we have now come up with our own radio badge. As head boy and head girl one of our first acts has been to choose the radio badge (presents the badge). We hope the radio station continues to be as successful as it is now even after we have left the academy. Lastly, we both feel that it is made aware to the public the extent of the schools progress since it has become an academy. Therefore we hope to make the headlines in a positive way through various activities. These consist of internal and external sporting events, school bands, talent shows and theatre plays, art exhibitions and finally...................................... SPELLING BEES!!! Thank you for listening this has been your head boy Richard Shelly and your Head Girl Zowe Kotamo. |
